Things to do at Springbrook

Most first visits revolve around one plateau Grade 3 — Purling Brook or Twin Falls— plus a short lookout, or a separate Natural Bridge day (and optional night). Mount Cougal is its own Currumbin Valley half-day. Warrie is a different sport. Do not collect every track on a first visit.

Some stay, tour and gear links may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Park fees and Queensland Parks bookings are never affiliated. Disclosure

One section a day

Pick plateau waterfalls or Natural Bridge (or Cougal) for the day — stacking two sections burns drive time and leaves you on wet stairs at dusk.

If the weather turns

After heavy rain, prioritise short lookouts and signed stops over full Grade 3 circuits. After long dry spells, still expect mud under canopy.

If you want glow worms

Glow worms need a real plan: red light only, parking ethics, sober return. Hinterland overnight beats a midnight motorway run.

  1. 1

    Purling Brook Falls circuit

    Grade 3 · ~4 km · ~2 hrs moving

The classic plateau waterfall day — cliff-edge rainforest, stairs, real climb out. One hard circuit is enough for most groups.

  2. 2

    Twin Falls circuit

    Grade 3 · ~4 km · spray & grip

Enclosed rainforest, spray zones and rock overhangs — the green-tunnel version of Purling Brook’s cliff day. Do not plan on toilets at the Tallanbana start (closed under a current park alert).

  3. 3

    Natural Bridge (day + night)

    Grade 2 · ~1 km · red-light rules at night

Short Grade 2 arch circuit by day; famous glow-worm chamber by night (weaker in winter). Different valley drive from the plateau.

  4. 4

    Best of All Lookout

    Grade 2 · 600 m · weather-dependent views

Official Grade 2, 600 m return — big caldera views when cloud lifts. Ideal add-on after a circuit or for mixed-fitness groups.

  5. 5

    Goomoolahra & short plateau stops

    Easy short · mixed fitness

Picnic-area energy — named falls and short signed walks without committing to a two-hour stair session.

  6. 6

    Mount Cougal Cascades

    Grade 2 · 1.6 km · separate section

Currumbin Valley creek walk and picnic pocket (official Grade 2, 1.6 km return) — its own half-day, not a five-minute add-on after Twin Falls.

  7. 7

    Warrie Circuit (experienced only)

    Grade 4 · 14 km · not a first walk

The plateau’s long Grade 4 circuit (official 14 km). Not Twin Falls plus a bit more. Early start, official status, turn-around clock.

  8. 8

    Guided tours (optional)

Optional · GC & Brisbane departures

Useful without a car or for first hinterland pacing — still verify alerts and inclusions yourself.
