A hinterland base makes night glow-worm visits saner than a late motorway run — and puts you closer to early parking for plateau walks.

Match the bed to the park section you care about most. Looking “close” on a map does not mean a short hop between plateau waterfalls and Natural Bridge.

Use day-trip itineraries to sanity-check drive stacks before you book non-refundable peak-weekend stays.
The Settlement on the plateau is the main official camping area most visitors mean when they say “camp in Springbrook.” It is small, bookable and facility-limited (confirm toilets, fires and current rules on Parks every time). It is convenient for Purling Brook access — not a wilderness walk-in experience.
Book only through the official system. Third-party pages that look “official” are a common trap; fees and conditions belong to Queensland Parks.
Peak school holidays and clear weekends fill early. If camping is full, hinterland cabins and the bases above still solve early parking without sleeping on the plateau.
Do not mix The Settlement (vehicle camp on the plateau) with the Great Walk’s Woonoongoora Walkers’ Camp.
Plateau cafes and general stores open and close over time — always check hours the week you travel. Do not plan a Grade 3 circuit on the assumption that a hot meal is waiting at the trailhead.
Carry water and snacks on any serious walk. Valley and Mudgeeraba options expand dinner choices if you base lower down. After a wet circuit, a hinterland pub or cafe beats driving hungry all the way to the strip.
